As the most popular social networking site on the planet, it was only a matter of time before Facebook released its own series of apps for the iPhone. Unfortunately, the first generation of applications was deemed unusable by most mobile members. Not only were users less than impressed with the graphics of these programs, but they also reported that they were difficult to use and offered few features.
But companies like Facebook are successful for a reason. They listened to their customers, made the necessary changes and delivered a vastly improved second generation of Facebook apps about a year later. The new applications have been a big hit with mobile users.
According to the official Facebook site, members who access the website from their mobile devices are the fastest growing segment of users. About fifty million members have downloaded Facebook applications, making them the most popular apps in history.
This basic application gives users mobile access to their regular Facebook account. Unlike the earlier versions, users can now check their mail, chat with friends and change their profiles over their mobile phone. The number of mobile users has grown steadily as many older members have discovered this new way to access their Facebook accounts.
Believe it or not, the 34-45 age group is the fastest growing group of new Facebook members. Typically a few years behind their kids when it comes to new technologies, they have only recently discovered Facebook mobile apps.
